On Friday, New Delhi and Moscow hosted a top‑level meeting aimed at boosting ties between India and Russia. Chiefs from both sides sat down to talk about shipbuilding, trade, science, and technology projects that could benefit the two nations.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led the Indian delegation, while Russia’s maritime chief, Nikolai Patrushev, headed the Russian team. The discussion brought together senior officials and experts to go over every aspect of maritime cooperation—from building new ships to improving port operations and logistics.
“India and Russia share a deep strategic partnership founded on trust and respect,” the governments said. “Prime Minister Modi and President Putin have steered this partnership toward long‑term economic and security goals.”
Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in shipbuilding, port development, maritime logistics, and Arctic operations. They also discussed joint research and training initiatives that will make the partnership more resilient, efficient and sustainable.
In a separate effort, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal met with Russian trade leaders in Moscow to push forward a free‑trade deal with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He talked with Andrey Slepnev, the EAEU trade minister, and Mikhail Yurin, Russia’s deputy industry and trade minister, and also hosted a networking session for Indian and Russian businesses.
These talks build on earlier trade and economic workshops, focusing on diversifying markets, strengthening supply chains, ensuring predictable regulations, and promoting balanced growth. The goal is clear: hit $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030 and grow Indian exports through industrial and tech collaboration.
The meetings underline a shared vision of expanding India‑Russia trade, science, and maritime cooperation, benefiting both economies and boosting regional and global connectivity.
