‘Only loud talk, nothing in implementation’: Shiv Sena(UBT) attacks Maha govt

Shiv Sena slammed the BJP‑led Maharashtra government for rushing local body elections amid farmers’ flood‑damage worries. The party said the ruling alliance is more focused on winning the 246 municipal councils and 42 town panchayats than on helping 68 lakh farmers who lost crops in heavy rains.

In a front‑page editorial in Saamana on Thursday, Shiv Sena complained that the state government talks big, but its actions stall. It pointed out that the government issued 220 resolution papers and 21 cabinet decisions just before the election schedule was released by the State Election Commission (SEC).

The editorial accused the SEC of filing the election dates without fixing the voter‑roll errors that opposition parties flagged. “The ruling coalition’s decisions are driven by political gain, not by people’s needs,” the piece said. It also highlighted that the government has yet to provide timely financial assistance to the flood‑affected farmers, and that the final damage assessments (“panchanamas”) are only complete in a few of 33 districts.

Shiv Sena has also criticized the government’s handling of contractors. It cites a warning by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that contractors must finish infrastructure projects on schedule, but questions why many contractors have not been paid and why several have lost their lives due to unpaid debts.

According to the party, the pre‑election rush was an attempt to secure power in local self‑government bodies without addressing the immediate needs of the people. The criticism comes as the government announced new funding for municipal projects and agriculture schemes, but the party argues that the aid is meant to boost the ruling party’s image rather than lift citizens out of distress.

The story underscores a growing narrative that the BJP‑led government prioritizes political control of local bodies over timely disaster relief and correction of electoral roll mistakes—an issue that is likely to dominate headlines as the election season enters a new phase in Maharashtra.
