India’s thrilling win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on Sunday has turned into a major cricket controversy. Captain Suryakumar Yadav shocked fans by revealing that his team never got their hands on the tournament trophy, turning what should have been a celebratory night into a bizarre standoff.

Suryakumar spoke openly to the media after the victory in Dubai. “I’ve never seen anything like this in my career,” he said. “We battled through two tough games in two days, and the guys deserved that moment. It’s unheard of for champions to miss out on the trophy—it’s disappointing, but I won’t dwell on it.”

Despite the drama, the skipper stayed positive about his team. He called his 14 players and support staff the “real trophies” from the campaign. “The memories from this Asia Cup will last a lifetime,” Suryakumar added with a smile.

In a heartwarming gesture, Suryakumar announced he’d donate his entire match fee from the tournament. “I’m giving it to support our Indian armed forces and the families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack,” he shared. “They’re always in my thoughts.”

The trouble started with behind-the-scenes tensions between the Indian team and Asia Cup organizers. Reports say the Indians refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, who also chairs the Pakistan Cricket Board and serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister. The team cited Pakistan’s alleged support for cross-border terrorism against India as the reason.

Before the post-match ceremony, India’s management asked who would present the silverware. They agreed to receive it from Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni, but Naqvi turned down the idea. When Naqvi approached the podium, the Indian players made it clear they wouldn’t take the trophy from him. Organizers then quietly whisked it away, delaying the event by over an hour and skipping the usual victory celebrations.

This unexpected twist has sparked debates about cricket politics in the region, overshadowing India’s dominant performance in the Asia Cup final. Fans are left wondering how such a mix-up could happen in a high-stakes showdown like India vs Pakistan.
