The champions of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup are heading to the capital for a round of celebrations.
Indian players and support staff will leave their hotel in New Delhi at 10:15 am on Thursday, arrive at Rashtrapati Bhawan, and meet President Droupadi Murmu at noon for a briefing and a formal felicitation.
The same team first met Prime Minister Narendra Modi the night before, at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. Modi greeted the squad in their smart uniform and medals, praised their historic comeback after three early defeats, and thanked the coaching staff and players for lifting India to its first major ICC trophy. The players presented the Modi with a signed team jersey, and he shared moments with the group in a relaxed, informal session.
The victory in Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium—a 52‑run win over South Africa—finished the Indian side’s long wait for a senior Women’s World Cup title. The triumph was celebrated from the hotel floor, where Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav and Sneh Rana danced to traditional dhol beats while fans cheered.
After the day’s official events, the squad will depart for their home towns. Shafali Verma, who earned Player of the Match honors in the final, will head to Nagaland to coach the North Zone side for the Inter Zonal T20 tournament.
The journey from victory to victory celebrations marks a proud moment for Indian women’s cricket, as the team turns a historic win into a national festivity led by the country’s top leaders.
