The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team won the toss on Monday and chose to bat first against Bangladesh in the 21st match of the Women’s World Cup 2025 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Sri Lanka has not yet opened its account in the tournament, while Bangladesh have only one win from five games. The decision to bat first gives Sri Lanka a chance to set a target, and the captain, Chamari Athapaththu, said the pitch looks good and the team feels optimistic under the sunny skies.
Sri Lanka made a single change: Udeshika Prabodani replaced Piumi Wathsala in the lineup.
Bangladesh added two fresh faces—Nahida Akter and Marufa Akter—taking the places of Fahima Khatun and Fariha Trisna.
Bangladesh’s captain, Nigar Sultana Joty, stressed the importance of bowlers, saying:
“We’ve been bowling consistently in this tournament. Our plan is to keep Sri Lanka’s total down so the chase is easier for us. We have good leg‑spin, off‑spin, and a left‑arm seam option. Every player is giving 100 % today, and I’m also keeping wickets.”
Both teams lined up as follows:
Bangladesh Women
Fargana Hoque, Rubya Haider, Sharmin Akhter, Nigar Sultana (captain & wicket‑keeper), Sobhana Mostary, Ritu Moni, Shorna Akhter, Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Nishita Akhter Nishi, Marufa Akter.
Sri Lanka Women
Chamari Athapaththu (captain), Vishmi Gunaratne, Hasini Perera, Harshitha Madavi Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani (wicket‑keeper), Sugandika Kumari, Malki Madara, Inoka Ranaweera, Udeshika Prabodhani.
With the toss decision to bat first, the stage is set for a competitive showdown in the world‑stage match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Keep watching for the innings and see if Sri Lanka can set a challenging target for the hosts.
