World Boxing C’ships: Minakshi, Jaismine, Nupur register dominant wins to reach finals

Indian Boxers Shine in Semifinals at World Boxing Championships 2025
Indian boxers are on fire at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool! Three talented women—Minakshi in the 48kg category, Jaismine Lamboria in 57kg, and Nupur in 80kg—dominated their semifinals today. Their strong performances have fans dreaming of multiple gold medals for India.
Minakshi crushed Mongolia’s Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan with a perfect 5:0 score. Jaismine Lamboria powered past Venezuela’s Omailyn Carolina Alcala Cegovia, also 5:0. And Nupur outclassed Turkey’s Seyma Duztas in a commanding win. These victories boost India’s hopes in the women’s boxing events.
India sent a strong 20-member team to this inaugural edition of the World Boxing Championships, organized by the new international body World Boxing. The squad is aiming big in both men’s and women’s categories, and so far, things look promising.
Pooja Rani, competing in women’s 80kg, became the fourth Indian to reach the semifinals. She’ll face England’s Emily Asquith later today—keep an eye on that matchup!
In the women’s 48kg semifinal, Minakshi kept the pressure on her opponent, a two-time Asian bronze medallist, from start to finish. She controlled all three rounds and won unanimously. Jaismine and Nupur followed suit, staying calm and in charge throughout their fights without facing much trouble.
Now, excitement builds for the finals on Saturday night. Jaismine will battle Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta from Poland in 57kg. Nupur takes on Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska, a multiple-time European champion, in 80kg. Can they bring home the gold?
On the men’s side, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. In the 50kg quarterfinals, young Indian Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, just 21 and in his first World Championships, put up a brave fight against Kazakhstan’s experienced Sanzhar Tashkenbay—a former world champion and two-time Asian winner. Jadumani pushed hard but fell short in a tight loss.
With more bouts ahead, India could still rack up medals at these World Boxing Championships 2025. Stay tuned for updates from Liverpool!
