Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations are lighting up the city with fresh ideas this year. Crowds flock to pandals that mix fun festivities with big thoughts on artificial intelligence, environmental issues, and changing family lives. These Kolkata Durga Puja setups turn ancient traditions into lively talks about today’s world.
At Jagat Mukherjee Park, organizers chose the theme “Artificial Intelligence: A Blessing or a Curse?” Right at the entrance, a huge Transformer statue welcomes visitors, nodding to smart machines and automation. Step inside, and you see cool displays like multiplexer circuits that show how AI pulls together info to decide things. Rows of diodes, breadboards, and server racks highlight the tech hardware powering our gadgets. In the middle, a tall vacuum tower hints at AI’s future strength. But the star remains Maa Durga’s idol, reminding everyone that faith stays central amid all the high-tech buzz.
Over at Dumdum Park Bharat Chakra, the pandal dives into “The Aura.” This setup explores the invisible energy field around the Goddess—think of it as a spiritual shield that protects and connects with the hidden vibes in all of us.
Shifting to tougher topics, Golaghata Sammilani tackles the pain kids face when parents divorce. The theme spotlights how grown-ups might gain freedom, but children often deal with emotional chaos and outside judgment. Sanchita Chakraborty, a club member there, shares her take: “Divorce has become like a social epidemic. Breaking a bond takes less time than building one, and ‘breakup’ is the hot word these days. It’s legal for couples, but parents should think about their kids first. The adults might thrive, but the innocent child loses out, facing uncertainty, court stress, family fears, and social backlash that hurts their young hearts. Can’t parents pause and reflect before such a big step?”
For something more earthy, Gouri Beria Sarbojanin Durgotsab draws eyes with its build—over 60,000 bricks in a terracotta style. The “Soil” theme celebrates earth as the base of life and our homelands, while warning about dangers to it. Artist Nikhil Mistri, who crafted the pandal, explains: “Soil isn’t just dirt—it’s the soul’s essence and one of the five key elements in our bodies, per ancient philosophy. It underpins our homes, farms, gardens, colors, daily needs, rituals, and worship. From cradle to grave, we rely on it totally.”
He adds a urgent note: “But today, soil faces real threats—not only the ground we walk on, but every nation’s motherland too. Big powers chase control over the weak, fueled by greed, pushing humanity toward ruin. As we hit our 92nd year, our message is clear: If countries show empathy and people support each other, we’ll safeguard every soil and homeland. On that secure earth, golden crops will grow, bringing peace, prosperity, and a fresh start for humankind.”
These Kolkata Durga Puja pandals weave social messages into the joy, pulling in huge crowds who love seeing faith meet tech, nature, and real-life emotions.
