The Border Security Force’s Kashmir Frontier is gearing up for an exciting event: the Save Wular Run with Borderman marathon on October 12, 2025. This initiative highlights environmental preservation in the region, drawing runners to support Kashmir’s natural treasures.

Organizers from the Wular Half Marathon 2.0 say the marathon will boost environmental awareness, build stronger ties with local communities, and inspire young people to chase positive dreams. It’s all about celebrating the outdoors while promoting a healthier Kashmir Valley.

The fun kicked off with a T-shirt unveiling ceremony at the Hangul Officer Institute in BSF Frontier HQ Humhama. Key guests included IPS officers like Satish S Khandare, ADG at HQ Special DG (WC) Chandigarh; Soloman Minz, IG at STC Kashmir; Ashok Yadav, IG at BSF Kashmir Frontier; and Shashank Anand, IG at BSF Jammu Frontier.

Runners of all levels can join in with three race options: a 5 km fun run, a 10 km challenge, or the full 21.1 km half marathon. These are open to both men and women. Expect around 3,000 participants from across India, with a big focus on folks from the Kashmir Valley.

Best part? Registration is free and already underway. The event also scouts for local running talent, offering sponsorship through the Khelo India scheme by the Sports Authority of India. Winners could get training to compete in national and international races.

At its heart, the Wular Half Marathon 2.0 protects Wular Lake, one of Asia’s largest freshwater lakes and a true gem of the Indian subcontinent. Under the “Save Wular, Run with Borderman” banner, it spotlights environmental conservation, sportsmanship, and tourism in Kashmir—making the valley an even more inviting spot for adventure seekers.

In other BSF news, the force is ramping up efforts inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat radio series. They’re training Indian breed dogs for security roles, with 150 already added to BSF dog squads. This push strengthens their teams while honoring homegrown breeds.
