Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick off a major boost for women in Bihar this Friday at 11 a.m. through a video conference launch. The event highlights the new Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, timed just before the Bihar Assembly elections heat up.
During the launch, Modi will directly send Rs 10,000 into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across the state. That adds up to a whopping Rs 7,500 crore in the first phase, giving these women a real shot at starting their own income-generating ventures.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar first announced the scheme to help women become self-reliant—Aatmanirbhar—by opening doors to self-employment and better livelihoods. It’s designed for every family in Bihar, so one woman per household can get this financial kickstart for whatever business or job she chooses.
The program starts with that Rs 10,000 grant. Six months in, officials will check on progress and could provide more support—up to Rs 2 lakh extra—to keep things moving.
Women will also get hands-on training from community experts in self-help groups. These pros will teach skills for running businesses smoothly. Plus, the state plans to upgrade local rural markets, or gramin haat-bazaars, so these women can easily sell their products and build sustainable income.
This push comes as a smart play to empower women voters and strengthen rural economies right before the high-stakes polls. The ruling NDA, led by Nitish Kumar, gears up against a tough challenge from the opposition Grand Alliance, or INDIA bloc.
The Bihar government greenlit the scheme back on August 29, 2025, during a cabinet meeting at the chief minister’s office. It’s all about delivering financial aid and self-employment chances to uplift women across the state.
