BJP targets K’taka govt for ‘involvement’ of police officers in several criminal cases

Bengaluru – Karnataka’s BJP blasted the Congress‑run state government on Tuesday, saying the “deteriorating” law and order situation is getting worse as more police officers are suspended for “involvement” in criminal conduct.
B.Y. Vijayendra, an MLA and BJP state chief, warned that having 124 police staff suspended over a year‑long stretch of “involvement” in crime cases is alarming. He added that the very men sworn to protect citizens are increasingly linked to criminal activities, and asked what safety the public can expect from the current administration.
Vijayendra accused the Congress government of failing to control the problem, calling their rule a “misrule” and claiming a clueless Home Minister is preoccupied with internal power struggles, letting criminalisation take root within the force. He urged Karnataka to be better than this “disorder” and not to abdicate responsibility.
An investigation has revealed that a serving constable was the main planner behind a Rs 7.11‑crore daylight robbery, with the accused, Annappa Naik of Govindapura police, arrested along with former Cash Management Services employee Xavier. The pair had allegedly planned the heist for over six months after Xavier left the company.
In a separate incident, the Karnataka police detained four people, including two sub‑inspectors, linked to a gold robbery in Davanagere district. The crime, reported at KTJ Nagar police station, involved a gold businessperson, Vishwanath Arkasali, who allegedly carried 80 grams of gold to a bus stop. Sub‑inspectors, posing as members of the IG Squad, were said to have carried out the robbery.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara warned that any police personnel found engaged in criminal activities would be dismissed from service without leniency and has instructed senior officers to enforce strict vigilance.
