Ahmedabad, Dec 9 (LatestNewsX) – On the first day of the Tennis Premier League Season 7, a packed schedule unfolded at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium. This was the first time the event took place in Ahmedabad, and fans were treated to a lively showdown featuring stars such as Rohan Bopanna, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, and Luciano Darderi. Matches were hosted on a charcoal‑coloured court, with all eight teams in action on Tuesday.
The SG Pipers Bengaluru and the Rajasthan Rangers kicked off the competition with victories in their opening encounters. In the opening match between SG Pipers and the Gurgaon Grand Slammers, Sahaja Yamalapalli started the action, while Shrivalli Bhamidipaty delivered a decisive performance for SG Pipers, taking Women’s Singles 18‑7. She then partnered with Rohan Bopanna in Mixed Doubles, edging out Sahaja and Sriram Balaji 14‑11. The Men’s Singles saw Dan Evans win 16‑9 for Gurgaon, but SG Pipers took the day in Men’s Doubles thanks to the pairing of Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramnathan, who bested Sriram Balaji and Dan Evans 15‑10. SG Pipers finished their first match with a total score of 56‑44.
Defending champions Hyderabad Strikers faced the Rajasthan Rangers in the second game. Carole Monnet gave the Strikers a strong start by winning Women’s Singles 18‑7 over Ekaterina Kazionova, but the Rangers responded by taking Mixed Doubles 13‑12 against Monnet and Vishnu Vardhan. In Men’s Singles, Luciano Darderi earned a 15‑10 win over Pedro Martinez to spark the Rangers’ comeback. Later, Darderi and Dhakshineswar Suresh defeated Vishnu Vardhan and Pedro Martinez 17‑8, securing a narrow 52‑48 victory for Rajasthan.
During the second half of the day, the GS Delhi Aces faced Yash Mumbai Eagles in another opening clash. Meanwhile, Chennai Smashers and Gujarat Panthers were slated to complete day one of play.
