PKL 12: Deshwal’s career-best 26 helps Thalaivas to a big home win over Pirates

In Chennai’s home gym, the Tamil Thalaivas dominated the Patna Pirates to finish their first‑leg season with a 56‑37 win in Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 12. The match, held at the SDAT Multi‑Purpose Indoor Stadium, saw star raider Arjun Deshwal score a career‑best 26 points, taking his total Super 10s to 71 and moving him into third place on the all‑time PKL list.

Deshwal’s headline‑making raid led the game, while teammates Nitesh Kumar and Narender Kandola chipped in with six and five points respectively. The Thalaivas’ 56 points is the largest team total this season and the biggest single‑match score in PKL history.

Patna Pirates were no slouches, with Ayan Lohchab and Ankit Rana each bagging a Super 10, but their 37 points fell short of the Thalaivas storm.

The two teams opened the game quickly. Ayan imposed himself on the Thalaivas defense first, securing a Super Raid that gave Patna a thin lead. Deshwal answered with a fast raid, helping his squad erase the deficit. Early in the game, Aashish and Tasingu kept the hosts within a point, but a tackle by Navdeep turned the tide in Tam

Meanwhile, commentary on the entire match includes the inside formations: Aashish and Nitesh combined to steal a tackle, equalising the score at 14‑14 before Nitesh forced a set of 8, giving Thalaivas a 4‑point advantage. Deshwal found his rhythm, adding an eighth Super 10.

Patna kept close at 20‑21, and by the half‑time the Thalaivas had a commanding 30‑19 scoreline. Then Ankit trimmed the deficit to 9‑point margin with a Super Raid, still keeping Khudir Exchange champions in the game. Deshwal stared down the ball and intercepted the attack line, then trailheads for a 4‑point All‑Out, leaving the score at 43‑26.

When final hours rolled on, Deshwal’s last move sealed the lucky half. Both teams fought until the last conversion, but the Thalaivas remained unbeatable, as the 19‑point victory proved Deshwal’s 26‑point performance the biggest single‑match haul by a PKL raider this season.

In short: Tamil Thalaivas win 56‑37 in Chennai, Arjun Deshwal rockets to 26 points, pulls his Super‑10 tally to 71 and climbs to the third‑place spot on the PKL leaderboard. The match sets the tone for a high‑scoring season, while the Patna Pirates show their competitiveness, with Ayan Lohchab and Ankit Rana each recording Super 10s in a tough loss.
