India’s cricket board, the BCCI, didn’t hold back at a recent Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting. They strongly protested the ACC’s refusal to hand over the Asia Cup winner’s trophy to the Indian team. Sources say the tension boiled over during the post-match ceremony, thanks to some dramatic moves by ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Rajeev Shukla, who spoke for the BCCI, fired tough questions at Naqvi. “Why wasn’t the trophy given to the winning team? It’s not anyone’s personal property,” Shukla reportedly demanded.
Naqvi pushed back, saying he never got any official word from India that the team wouldn’t accept the trophy from him. He even skipped congratulating India on their big Asia Cup victory. Instead, he praised Nepal and Mongolia for joining the ACC—while completely ignoring the champions.
The BCCI made their stance crystal clear: “Hand over the trophy. If we have to, we’ll pick it up straight from the ACC office.” But Naqvi stood firm, wanting more talks. The BCCI isn’t budging, insisting, “No negotiations—the trophy is ours.”
So far, Naqvi hasn’t agreed to release it. Now, the BCCI plans to lodge a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over this trophy controversy.
The drama started right after India beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup final. Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates refused to take the trophy from Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Tensions ran high from the start, with the Indian side skipping handshakes with Pakistan players in their first two matches.
