Kolkata, India (September 25) – One of South Kolkata’s biggest Durga Puja celebrations, Hazra Park Durgotsab, kicked off its 83rd year today with an exciting theme called Drishtikon. This vibrant festival draws crowds every year, blending age-old traditions with fresh creativity.
At the heart of the pandal stands Kolkata’s tallest Durga idol ever – a stunning 30-foot statue that mixes classic artistry with bold new ideas. Crafted by famous artist Biman Saha, the idol bursts with colors that go way beyond decoration. Drishtikon explores how hues tell stories, carrying emotions, thoughts, and even life’s philosophies.
The massive idol, draped in a rainbow of shades, brings this concept to life. Colors here symbolize everything from love’s warmth to hope’s glow, inviting visitors to rethink how shades shape our world and worship.
Sayan Deb Chatterjee, joint secretary of the Hazra Park Durgotsab Committee, shared his thoughts: “Color isn’t just something that beautifies the world – it’s its heartbeat. Every shade holds an emotion: the warmth of love, the fire of protest, the courage of conviction, the glow of hope. Color is the heartbeat of life. With Drishtikon, we want people to look beyond the obvious, to see how color shapes not just the Goddess’s form but our very way of thinking. Every shade tells a story, and this year, we invite everyone to be part of that story. Plus, Kolkata’s tallest 30-foot Durga idol will grace our pandal, offering visitors a breathtaking sight and an unforgettable experience.”
