Raids against social media misuse in Kashmir; crackdown on terror operatives in Ramban (Ld)

The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter‑Intelligence wing carried out a series of coordinated raids across five districts in the state, including Pulwama, Shopian, Srinagar, Baramulla and Kulgam, on Sunday. Police say the operations targeted individuals who were allegedly using social media to spread hateful and anti‑national content.

At dawn, CIK teams, together with local officers, seized mobile phones, laptops and other storage devices from homes and businesses linked to the online abuse network. The seized devices are now in for forensic analysis. Some suspects were taken into custody for questioning, while others remain under surveillance until the evidence can be fully verified.

The crackdown aims to stop the spread of propaganda that fuels communal disharmony and glorifies militancy. Police officials warned that the online networks have also been used to threaten politicians, police and intelligence personnel.

In Ramban district, the police ran Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) in Banihal and Gool. SS Ramban SSP Arun Gupta oversaw the efforts, which included joint teams from the army, CRPF and Special Operations Group. Officers searched homes of relatives and associates of Kashmir‑based terrorists operating out of Pakistan, looking for signs of anti‑national or unlawful activity. The drives were carried out without disturbing the public and were part of a broader preventive security strategy.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police continue to focus on anti‑terror operations, targeting known terrorists, their overground workers and sympathisers. Authorities also keep a special eye on drug smuggling and hawala money rails that may fund terrorism in the state.

Police are asking the public to help identify suspicious activities. Informants will remain anonymous. “Ramban Police remain committed to neutralising any anti‑national network and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the officer said.
