Gujarat CM disburses Rs 370 cr scholarships to 13 lakh students via DBT

In Gandhinagar on Friday, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel hosted a scholarship‑handing ceremony that celebrated the state’s flagship education programmes – Namo Lakshmi, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana, Mukhyamantri Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship, and Mukhyamantri Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship.

Over 13 lakh students across the state will now have received scholarship money worth more than ₹370 cr, with the funds deposited straight into their bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The event drew a mix of high‑ranking officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Education Minister Dr Pradyumansinh Vaja, and Minister of State for Education Rivaba Jadeja, along with other dignitaries.

During his remarks, Patel highlighted how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative has amplified the importance of girls’ education across the country. He recalled that campaigns such as School Enrollment Drives (Praveshotsav) and Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav—both launched while Modi was Gujarat’s chief minister—have reshaped the state’s education landscape and encouraged families to prioritize schooling for their daughters.

Patel also noted that Gujarat has realized PM Modi’s vision of seamless progress from KG to PG, stressing that education is the bedrock of any state or nation’s development. He urged students to pursue knowledge with resolve and to take pride in India’s indigenous heritage.

The chief minister added that young people will be pivotal in building a Viksit Gujarat and an Atmanirbhar Gujarat, and in shaping a Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat in the future.

Over the past twenty years, Gujarat’s educational infrastructure has grown rapidly, becoming one of India’s most robust state systems. The government has strengthened the entire progression from KG to PG, expanding school access through School Praveshotsav, modernising classrooms, integrating digital tools, creating smart schools, and enhancing teacher recruitment.

At the university level, Gujarat now boasts a solid network of universities, model colleges, skill institutes, and specialised centres in engineering, medicine, and research. Schemes such as Namo Lakshmi, Namo Saraswati, and other merit scholarships have boosted retention and access, particularly for girls.

Investments in hostels, STEM labs, vocational training, and public‑private partnerships have helped align education with employability, making Gujarat’s education system increasingly inclusive, contemporary, and industry‑focused.
