Human skull found in bushes near Coney Island boardwalk, as searches continue for more remains: cops
A skull was discovered hidden among the bushes just off the Riegelmann Boardwalk in Coney Island late Tuesday night, police said. The remains were spotted by a homeless individual near the famed boardwalk between West 32nd and West 33rd streets, who dialed 911 sometime before 6 p.m. Officers who responded to the call found the skull immediately beside the boardwalk ramp, and later forensic examiners confirmed it was human. Witnesses told authorities the skull had apparently been in the area for a long time, though the circumstances that led to its placement—or the cause of death—remain unknown. The NYPD, together with the city medical examiner’s office, is now looking into the case.
