Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Gyan Bharatam Portal today in New Delhi, spotlighting a major push to digitize India’s ancient manuscripts. He pointed out how history’s tough times wiped out millions of these treasures, but India still holds the world’s biggest collection—with around one crore manuscripts waiting to be explored through cutting-edge technology.
Modi stressed how vital it is to preserve these manuscripts and make them easy for everyone to access. “India isn’t just about kings winning or losing battles—it’s got its own unique culture, spirit, and soul,” he said. From the snowy Himalayas to the vast Indian Ocean, India’s essence has stayed strong even as borders shifted over centuries.
He highlighted that nations around the world treat even a single old manuscript or artifact like a national gem. For India, with its massive manuscript wealth, this is a huge source of pride. Modi explained that India’s knowledge legacy thrives on four key pillars: preservation, innovation, addition, and adaptation.
The Gyan Bharatam Mission isn’t just about saving the past—it’s unlocking fresh research and innovation. Modi noted the global cultural and creative industry is worth a whopping $2.5 trillion, and digitized manuscripts could supercharge its value chains. These ancient texts will act as a giant data bank, fueling data-driven breakthroughs and creating exciting tech jobs for the youth.
As digitization ramps up, Modi called for more use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to dive deep into these manuscripts. “AI can help us analyze them better, understand their secrets, and share this knowledge authentically with the world,” he added. This tech boost will open doors for academic studies and make India’s heritage shine globally.
Urging young people to jump in, Modi said, “Let’s explore our past with technology and make this wisdom available to everyone based on solid evidence.” He also encouraged universities and institutes to lead new initiatives, tying it all to India’s Swadeshi spirit and Atmanirbhar Bharat resolve.
In the end, Modi declared that turning our heritage into a pillar of strength through the Gyan Bharatam Mission will kick off an exciting new era for India’s future.
