Assam CM reiterates commitment to public health, assures assistance for all regions

Guwahati, Dec 4 (LatestNewsX) – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his administration’s pledge to improve health services throughout the state, especially in hard‑to‑reach and underserved districts.
The statement appeared in a post on X where he underscored the government’s dedication to safeguarding every citizen’s well‑being.
“We remain firmly committed to ensuring the health of our people in every region and will extend any assistance to ensure their well‑being,” the Chief Minister wrote, highlighting ongoing efforts to broaden access to quality medical care.
Sarma’s remarks come amid a wave of initiatives the state has introduced to boost medical infrastructure and reduce the financial strain on low‑income families. In recent years, Assam has expanded its health network with new medical colleges, upgraded district hospitals, and strengthened primary health centres.
Additionally, the government rolled out the Mukhya Mantri Lok Seva Arogya Yojana, providing financial help for a range of medical procedures, and set up dedicated support systems for cancer patients, including a network of specialised cancer treatment centres statewide.
To reach remote, flood‑prone areas, Assam has bolstered mobile medical units, telemedicine services, and emergency response capabilities. The state also stressed the proper implementation of central health schemes such as Atal Amrit Abhiyan—a state‑funded program offering cashless treatment for critical illnesses to low‑income families.
The Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana further broadened coverage for hospitalisation and specialised care. Health officials have noted that programmes for maternal and child health, immunisation, nutrition support, and targeted efforts against tuberculosis and vector‑borne diseases have all seen scaling, contributing to better health outcomes.
Observers say Sarma’s X message underscores the administration’s sustained commitment to equitable healthcare, cutting out‑of‑pocket costs, and building a robust health system that supports the state’s most vulnerable populations.
