Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar couldn’t hide his excitement during the nail-biting Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. His heart raced so fast that it felt like it might explode as he watched the action unfold.
India pulled off a thrilling win, chasing down 147 runs with just two balls to spare. This victory gave the Men in Blue their third straight win over Pakistan in the 2025 tournament and boosted their tally to a record ninth Asia Cup title. Under captain Suryakumar Yadav, the team showed real grit to seal the deal.
Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar shared his raw emotions: “Heart rate was at its peak; it felt like it’d burst anytime.”
The chase started rocky for India. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill fell cheaply, leaving the middle order to battle early. At one point, India slumped to 20 for 3, handing Pakistan a chance to fight back.
Gavaskar broke down the early drama, pointing out how the top-order batters pushed too hard for quick runs despite the modest target. “What we saw in the first three dismissals was hard to comprehend because it wasn’t a big target where you’d have to look to score on every delivery,” he said. “What you needed was a nice solid start—not necessarily a 60 or a 50 in the first six overs, but maybe even a 35-40. But they were 20/3; that’s what opened the door for Pakistan, that’s what got everyone nervous.”
He added that if strong bowling had caused the wickets, it would be different. But here, the batters played risky shots that weren’t needed, ramping up the tension for fans and players alike.
The Asia Cup 2025 final will go down as a classic India-Pakistan showdown, full of drama and high stakes in international cricket.
