The Andhra Pradesh government kicked off a month-long awareness drive on Monday to highlight the benefits of recent GST reforms that took effect the same day. Officials plan to hold 65,000 meetings across the state until Diwali, including door-to-door visits to explain how lower GST rates on essentials, household goods, medicines, and other items are saving people money.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu shared these details during a session in the state Assembly. He emphasized setting up display boards in public spots to show off the new reduced prices on everyday products. The campaign will also reach schools and colleges, and Naidu urged all MLAs and ministers to jump in and spread the word.
As he extended greetings for upcoming Dussehra and Diwali festivals, Naidu encouraged residents to celebrate lavishly thanks to these people-friendly GST changes that make things more affordable. He described the updates as “GST 2.0,” saying they will supercharge India’s Make in India initiative by boosting local manufacturing and helping Indian brands compete on the global stage. This, he added, sets the foundation for a self-reliant economy.
Naidu called on everyone to choose homegrown Indian products, turning citizens into active partners in the nation’s economic rise. He shared his vision of India becoming the world’s top economy by 2047, with Andhra Pradesh leading as the number one state. The GST reforms, he noted, align perfectly with the state’s “one family, one entrepreneur” program to spark widespread business growth.
To ensure the campaign succeeds, Naidu announced a special committee of ministers: Payyavula Kesav, Nara Lokesh, Kandula Durgesh, Satyakumar Yadav, and Vangalapudi Anitha.
These GST tweaks will help all walks of life, Naidu said, delivering a whopping Rs 2.25 lakh crore in national benefits and Rs 8,000 crore for Andhra Pradesh alone. He highlighted a big win for the MSME sector, which stands to gain major momentum.
With his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as a key ally in the central NDA government and leading the state coalition, Naidu touted the “double-engine” setup—state and center working together—for delivering double the growth through these reforms.
