On the night of November 30, a man from Long Island was left badly injured after a petty dispute with a street vendor outside the Beacon Theatre on the Upper West Side. Sean Llewellyn, 47, had just walked out of a concert around West 75th Street when he tried to buy something from a roadside salesman. He handed him $20—apparently for a small knick‑knack—and the vendor tried to run off with the bill.
When Sean chased after the vendor, a handful of bystanders joined in and started hitting him hard. The blows knocked him into the emergency room with a traumatic brain injury and a fractured eye socket, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his family. Police reports say the assailants used no weapons in the attack.
Sean is a youth hockey coach from Long Beach and a devoted husband and father to three little boys. His wife, Shannon, and their loved ones are described in the fundraiser as community pillars who regularly volunteer, organize church events and help other families in need. Because Sean can’t work right now, the family is facing a steep financial burden from upcoming surgery and long‑term medical costs.
“Sean is a dedicated family man, a proud sports dad, and the ‘fun coach’ everyone loves,” the GoFundMe page reads. The relatives added that “as the primary provider for his family … this tragedy has created an overwhelming financial strain.” They ask for anyone who can help to support the family during this difficult time.
As of Friday, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
