Intense Encounter in J&K’s Kulgam: Two Terrorists and Two Soldiers Dead in Anti-Terror Operation
In a fierce gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, security forces took down two terrorists, but the operation claimed the lives of two brave soldiers too. This happened on Monday in the dense Gudar forest area, where joint teams of the army and other forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) after getting tips about terrorists hiding there.
The action kicked off when the terrorists hiding in the forest opened fire on the approaching security forces. One terrorist got killed right in the initial exchange of bullets. Sadly, three soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), suffered injuries during the heavy fighting. They rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital, but two soldiers—Sub Prabhjot Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Singh—didn’t make it and sacrificed their lives for the nation. Doctors say the JCO’s condition is now stable.
The operation didn’t stop there. As the forces pressed on, they eliminated another terrorist. The army’s Chinar Corps, based in Srinagar, shared a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) honoring the fallen heroes: "OP GUDDAR, Kulgam. Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts, Sub Prabhjot Gaur and L/Nk Narender Singh, in line of duty for the Nation. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us. #IndianArmy expresses deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the bereaved families." They added that the operation continues.
Officials are still working to identify the two slain terrorists. This encounter highlights the ongoing aggressive anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir, which target not just the armed militants but also their overground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers. Security experts stress that to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory (UT), forces must go after everyone supporting terrorism, from financiers to helpers on the ground.
These efforts come amid rising attempts by terrorists to sneak across the Line of Control (LoC) from Pakistan, especially after the suspension of ‘Operation Sindoor’. J&K’s 740-km LoC stays heavily guarded by the Indian Army, while the Border Security Force (BSF) watches over the 240-km International Border in areas like Jammu, Samba, and Kathua.
Terror groups, backed by Pakistan, have ramped up drone attacks along the International Border to drop weapons, drugs, and cash for militants on the Indian side. The BSF fights back with advanced anti-drone technology to stop these sneaky supplies and cut off terror handlers in Pakistan.
Security forces also keep a close eye on drug smugglers and hawala money networks, as these rackets generate funds that fuel terrorism in J&K. Investigations often trace these illegal operations back to Pakistan-based terror handlers. With such multi-pronged strategies, the forces aim to make J&K safer by rooting out every link in the terror chain.
