Chennai, 12 Nov – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says heavy rain will hit isolated spots in four southern districts of Tamil Nadu – Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari – tomorrow.
The forecast points to a low‑pressure trough over the southeast Arabian Sea that is pushing showers down along the coast. “One or two places in each of the four districts could get heavy rain,” the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai said.
In Tirunelveli’s hilly Western Ghats, residents could see intense showers, lightning and gusty winds by the evening. The RMC cautions that such rains may cause flash flooding and waterlogging in low‑lying pockets.
Chennai will see partly cloudy skies with a chance of light showers or thundershowers in the late afternoon or early night. Temperatures should stay between 26 °C at night and 32 °C by day.
Fishermen along the coast need not worry today. Wind will be moderate and the sea calm. Still, they should keep an eye on updates, as conditions could shift over the Bay of Bengal next week.
The easterly breeze will bring occasional cloud‑bursts to other southern and interior districts through mid‑week. Residents in low‑lying areas are urged to stay alert and take precautions against sudden flooding.
With the northeast monsoon in full swing, Tamil Nadu’s southern districts can expect unsettled weather for several days ahead.
