Patna, Nov 14 – Early results from the Bihar Assembly polling show the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) making strong gains. In the Tarapur seat, Samrat Choudhary of the BJP is ahead by more than 28,000 votes, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate, Arun Kumar, trails by over 6,000.
In Lakhisarai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has turned his race around, now holding more than 20,000 votes, pulling ahead of Congress’s Amaresh Kumar by roughly 5,300. These individual victories help the BJP spot as the largest party, currently leading in 85 of the 243 assembly seats.
At noon, the BJP held 85 seats while the JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar, was ahead in 77. A half‑hour later, the numbers had shifted, and the two partners – BJP and JD(U) – were neck‑and‑neck for the top spot. Together, the NDA leads in 188 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, the RJD‑led coalition, is in 47.
Counting began at 8 a.m., first with postal ballots and then with electronic voting machine (EVM) votes from 8:30 a.m. over the state. Security measures were tight: 243 returning officers and the same number of observers were deployed. More than 18,000 counting agents from all parties watched the process. Only people with passes entered the halls, and mobile phones were banned inside.
The elections served 70 + crore voters in two phases on November 6 and 11. In the outgoing assembly, the NDA holds 131 seats (BJP 80, JD(U) 45, plus a few independents and other allies). The opposition, led by the RJD, has 111 seats (RJD 77, Congress 19, and smaller parties).
Both NDA leaders claim the votes reflect confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development agenda, while the Mahagathbandhan leaders say voters wanted change and expect Tejashwi Yadav to head the next government.
