My lows in life have taught me more than my highs: Bhumi Pednekar reflects on her journey

Mumbai, India – Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar got candid about her 10-year ride in films during a lively session at the India Today Conclave Mumbai 2025. Titled “Power of Presence in a Changing Industry,” the talk highlighted how her career has transformed her life and outlook.

Bhumi kicked things off by gushing over her debut movie, Dum Laga Ke Haisha. “I can never shake off the presence and impact that Dum Laga Ke Haisha had on me,” she shared. “It was a film that truly made a difference.” She started out as a wide-eyed teenager at Yash Raj Films, chasing dreams of becoming a leading heroine. Back then, she hunted for chances and acceptance. Now, she focuses on purpose and real change. “That’s how I’ve evolved as a person,” Bhumi added.

Over the years, her films have struck a chord with fans by tackling big issues. Movies like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Sonchiriya, Badhaai Do, and Bhakshak dive into topics such as ethical journalism and gender-based violence. Meanwhile, her latest Netflix hit, The Royals, spotlights powerful women in charge. “These last 10 years have been filled with nothing but gratitude,” Bhumi said. “Every morning, I wake up feeling like I’m headed to a film set, and that feeling is everything. This is just the beginning. I want to keep working until my last breath.”

But it’s not all smooth sailing. Bhumi opened up about the tough side of fame – dealing with trolling and online bullying. “We’re used to it,” she admitted. “But when women are targeted, I don’t always know how to deal with it.” She doesn’t start her day with endless courage; instead, she digs deep to find it because she has no choice. “I know I’m going to survive this. I have too much drive and ambition in me.” In today’s social media world, opinions flood in nonstop. Yet, Bhumi credits her tough moments for building her strength. “My lows in life have taught me more than my highs, and they’ve shown me that I am far more resilient than I thought.”

Fans loved Bhumi’s strong performance in The Royals on Netflix, her most recent project. As she pushes forward in Bollywood, her story inspires many navigating the industry’s ups and downs.
