Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has made a heartfelt appeal to teachers across the state. He urged them not only to teach their students but also to become mentors who inspire and guide children to chase their dreams.
Speaking at the Teachers’ Day celebrations in Bhubaneswar on Friday, CM Majhi emphasized how today’s world is full of opportunities. “There are endless chances in every field to discover and nurture the hidden talents inside each child. Let them dream big, and support them as mentors so they can reach their goals,” he said.
The Chief Minister also pointed out two main challenges facing modern education in Odisha. One is reducing the number of students dropping out of school, and the other is providing quality education to every child. He highlighted the success of the mid-day meal scheme, which has helped keep students in school by offering nutritious food. The government has extended this program up to Class 10 and is working to ensure all children receive healthy meals.
Odisha’s initiatives go beyond nutrition. Tribal children are being supported through the ‘Shahid Madho Singh Haath Kharcha Yojana’, aimed at helping social and educational development. These efforts, CM Majhi said, will help further cut down dropout rates and improve the quality of education in the state.
The government is also rolling out new schemes to boost primary education. One such plan is the Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya scheme, which aims to create a model school in every panchayat (local government area). In the first phase, 835 schools are planned to be built at a cost of Rs 5 to 7 crore each. Alongside this, the government will fill around 45,000 primary teaching positions over the next three years.
“Our goal is to build a prosperous Odisha by 2036,” CM Majhi declared. “The foundation of a bright Odisha lies in the talents of today’s students. I trust that teachers will take this responsibility seriously and help shape children into good, responsible citizens.”
During the Teachers’ Day event, the Chief Minister also paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a legendary teacher and philosopher, calling him an ideal role model for students and teachers alike.
To honor outstanding educators, CM Majhi presented awards to teachers, districts, and education officials under the ‘Mukhyamantri Shikhya Puraskar’ scheme, recognizing their dedication and hard work in improving education across Odisha.
This Teachers’ Day emphasized the importance of nurturing young minds, building a brighter future for Odisha through dedicated teachers and innovative education initiatives.
