Trump says ‘we have a deal on Gaza’ as Israeli PM vows to ‘finish the job’

US President Donald Trump shared some hopeful news on Friday, telling reporters at the White House that the United States could be nearing a major deal to end the war in Gaza. “It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza,” Trump said, adding that it would bring back all the hostages, stop the fighting, and lead to lasting peace.
Trump also made it clear he won’t let Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu push forward with annexing the Israeli-occupied West Bank. “I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. It’s not going to happen,” he stated firmly.
According to US media reports, Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan calls for releasing every hostage held by Hamas, establishing a permanent ceasefire, slowly pulling Israeli forces out of the Gaza Strip, setting up a new governing body that keeps Hamas out, and bringing in international troops to handle security.
This comes right after Netanyahu’s strong speech at the UN General Assembly on Friday. He warned that Israel will “finish the job” against Hamas unless the group drops its weapons and frees the remaining hostages from the brutal October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that killed more than 1,200 people. Standing at the podium, Netanyahu directly told Hamas: “Free the hostages now. If you do, you will live. If you don’t, Israel will hunt you down.”
Trump has been busy on the Gaza front too. Earlier this week, on Tuesday, he hosted a key meeting with leaders from several Muslim-majority countries to discuss the crisis, right on the edges of the UN General Assembly in New York. The group included Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with top officials from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
In his own address to the UNGA, Trump pointed the finger at Hamas for turning down “reasonable offers” for peace. He slammed nations that have recently recognized a Palestinian state, saying it would just reward the terrorists for their October 7 atrocities. “We can’t forget October 7,” Trump urged. “As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists… Those who want peace should be united with one message: release the hostages now. Just release the hostages now.”
