Humiliating moment Chris Cuomo covered his brother’s crushing NYC mayoral election loss

Chris Cuomo went live on NewsNation to cover the night his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, lost the New York City mayoral race. The former CNN host had usually stayed away from his brother’s campaign, but when the results came in he was on the air.

Cuomo admitted, “Of course I wanted my brother to win,” and added that, while he respected Andrew’s experience, he didn’t feel he matched what Democrats wanted in a city leader. “He’s a great operator in government, but he isn’t what the party’s ready for right now,” he said.

The race finished with socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani beating Andrew Cuomo. Mamdani secured 50.4% of the vote, while Andrew received 41.6%. Republican Curtis Sliwa finished third with 7.1%. With the result, the Democrats kept a strong hold on New York City, reinforcing the city’s shift toward progressive leadership.

Cuomo pointed out that the type of Democrat the party wants—more progressive—could shape outcomes in the upcoming midterm elections. The clear outcome of the mayoral contest shows that voters favored a fresh face over a former governor‑turned-independent candidate.
