A shocking incident occurred at Baruipur station in South 24 Parganas when a female ticket examiner was attacked while checking train tickets. The incident happened on Saturday and has grabbed attention across the region.
According to reports, a passenger threw hot ghugni — a delicious dish made of chickpeas — directly at the female ticket examiner, Pooja Kumari. She was asking to see her ticket when suddenly, the passenger targeted her with the hot food. The attacker was sitting on a reserved women’s coach of the Sealdah South local train at Baruipur Junction.
Witnesses say the woman, identified as Saida Bibi from Subhashgram, was sitting with a friend and eating ghugni. Some other passengers nearby complained that the duo was occupying seats illegally from Subhashgram to Sealdah. When Pooja Kumari approached them for their tickets, Saida Bibi pretended to show her ticket but then threw the hot ghugni into her face!
The female TTE suffered burns on her eyes and face from the hot food. Despite the pain, she quickly wiped her eyes and managed to remove the attacker from the train. Her screams alerted railway security, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) quickly arrived on the scene. They arrested Saida Bibi and took her into custody.
An RPF officer confirmed that Saida Bibi was traveling from Subhashgram to Sealdah but had no valid ticket for Baruipur. She was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further action. The injured ticket examiner has filed a formal complaint, demanding strict legal action against the attacker.
This isn’t the first such incident in the area. Just a few days earlier, another female TTE faced violence at Canning station. In that case, a passenger named Tanushree Roy was strangled inside the train after being caught without a ticket. Fellow passengers helped her, and the accused was caught.
Authorities are now warning about safety on trains and stations, urging passengers to follow rules and respect railway staff. Such violent acts are serious offenses and will face strict legal action. The railway department is also reviewing safety measures to protect both staff and travelers.
