Tom Holland sustains ‘mild concussion’ during ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ filming

Tom Holland took a tumble on the set of his latest superhero flick, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” and ended up with a mild concussion. The Hollywood star, known for swinging into action as Peter Parker, is stepping back from filming for a short break as a safety measure. He’ll be back on set in just a few days, according to reports from Variety.

Thankfully, no one else got hurt in the mishap. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, the power duo behind the movie, plan to huddle up on Monday to map out next steps. Production kicked off in Glasgow back in early August, and fans can catch the film in theaters on July 31 next year.

This comes hot on the heels of some exciting buzz around the project. Last month, Sony dropped a fun video showing Holland suited up in his fresh Spider-Man costume—his first time back in the red-and-blue threads since “Spider-Man: No Way Home” wrapped in 2021. In the clip, Holland shared his thrill: “It’s day one, my fourth ever day one on ‘Spider-Man.’ It’s funny, putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. It’s also the first time we ever had fans on set day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them.”

He added with a laugh, “We’ve got some familiar faces on set. I’m just going to do my best, hopefully get it right, no pressure.”

That star-studded lineup includes returning favorites like Zendaya and Jacob Batalon from the earlier Spider-Man movies. Newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are jumping in too, such as “The Bear” standout Liza Colon-Zayas, “Severance” Emmy winner Tramell Tillman, and “Stranger Things” breakout Sadie Sink. Plus, Marvel vets are swinging by: Mark Ruffalo reprises his role as Bruce Banner (the Hulk), Jon Bernthal returns as the Punisher, and Michael Mando suits up again as the villain Scorpion from “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Holland’s been dishing on the behind-the-scenes fun lately. Earlier this month, he told Esquire why he scores a brand-new Spider-Man suit every couple of weeks during filming. “Yeah, it definitely does. I probably get a new suit every two weeks, I reckon,” he said, chatting about diving back into his fourth Spider-Man adventure.

Holland’s journey to Spidey stardom started young. At age nine, he jumped into dance classes in England, where a sharp-eyed choreographer spotted his talent and lined up an audition for “Billy Elliot the Musical” on London’s West End. After two years of prep, he landed a supporting spot in 2008, then snagged the lead role later that year, performing until 2010.

He made his big-screen debut in 2012’s tsunami survival drama “The Impossible,” playing a teen caught in the chaos. From there, Holland went all-in on acting, starring in films like “How I Live Now” and taking on real-life figures in “In the Heart of the Sea” and the miniseries “Wolf Hall.” Now, at 27, he’s web-slinging his way through another blockbuster chapter.
