The latest updates in the Red Fort blast case show how the group behind the attack was funded and how they built their bomb. Delhi Police officials say Dr Umar Mohammad and his partners raised almost ₹20 lakh in cash to carry out the plot. The money was then delivered to Dr Umar, the key figure in the conspiracy.
Investigators found that four suspects—Dr Muzammil, Dr Adeel, Umar, and Shaheen—collectively gathered the cash and later passed it to Umar. The same group bought more than 20 quintals of NPK fertilizer, worth around ₹3 lakh, from suppliers in Gurugram, Nuh and nearby areas. The fertilizer was suspected of being used to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that detonated near the historic Red Fort.
Tensions within the team came to light when a dispute between Umar and Muzammil was uncovered, hinting at possible internal rifts. To keep operations secret, Umar set up a small Signal group with two to four members, where they shared logistics and target details.
A key new detail is that minutes before the blast, Umar visited a mosque in Old Delhi. CCTV footage and local intelligence show he lingered for more than ten minutes before heading towards the Red Fort, raising questions about a last‑minute meeting or instructions.
Forensic experts matched a severed leg fragment found on the steering wheel of the i20 car that exploded to Dr Umar’s DNA. This evidence firmly links him to the attack.
The deadly explosion struck the Red Fort complex at about 6:52 p.m. on November 10. The blast shattered the high‑security zone around the monument, sending shockwaves across the nation.
Following the incident, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the probe from Delhi Police’s Special Cell. NIA officials have cordoned the site and are conducting forensic tests, examining explosive residues, vehicle parts, and digital evidence to build the case.
