Over 6000 Afghan refugees forcibly deported from Pakistan, Iran in single day

Kabul – On November 30, a Taliban spokesperson announced that more than six thousand Afghans were being returned to the country after a sudden push‑back from both Pakistan and Iran.

The High Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues posted the details on X, noting that 1,188 families, totaling 6,553 people, crossed into Afghanistan the day before.

They reached the country through the main checkpoints at Torkham (Nangarhar), Pul‑i‑Abresham (Nimroz), Spin Boldak (Kandahar), Bahramcha (Helmand) and Islam Qala (Herat), according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Fitrat further explained that 1,260 families, or 8,102 individuals, were sent back to their home regions, while 780 families received emergency aid.

Telecommunications firms supplied 1,294 SIM cards to those deported from Iran and Pakistan.

Nearly 1,332 refugees had already been forcibly repatriated the previous day.

Earlier in the week, returnees who had come from Pakistan voiced worries about the approaching winter. They complained about a lack of shelter, the need for winter relief and the difficulty of getting electronic ID cards (tazkiras).

One of them, Abdul Baqi, told reporters, “Our main problem is that we have no shelter. When we return to the country, we don’t know where to go. We ask the Islamic Emirate to address our situation.”

The refugees said the assistance received was insufficient, and they continued to struggle with basic living needs, as reported by Tolo News.

Abdul Bari mentioned that many people are left homeless, spending days on the streets and along roads. Abdul Malik added that new arrivals are being asked to apply for electronic ID cards once they reach their provinces, urging authorities to expedite the process.

Another returnee, Abdul Qahar, called on the Taliban government to supply essential items such as tents and shelter.
