BJP Leader Rakesh Singh’s Family Seeks Calcutta High Court Help to Quash FIRs and End Police Harassment
In a bold move, the family of arrested BJP leader Rakesh Singh has approached the Calcutta High Court. They want the court to cancel the FIRs filed against them and put a stop to what they call "police harassment." This comes amid a series of legal troubles for the family in Kolkata.
The petition went before the single bench of Justice Jay Sengupta. The hearing is set for September 11, so we’ll soon know more about the court’s decision.
Rakesh Singh’s younger son, Shuvam Singh, spoke out about the family’s ordeal. "The police have filed another false case against my father," he said. "They’ve accused him of assault and cheating, but these are all baseless claims. We’ll prove in court that they’re untrue. My elder brother faces a false case too, and now even my mother, sister, and I are targeted. This is pure harassment. That’s why we’ve gone to the high court to quash these FIRs."
Shuvam remains optimistic. He believes the court will dismiss all these "false cases" since they hold no truth.
Let’s rewind to how this all started. On September 3, Kolkata Police finally caught up with the absconding BJP leader Rakesh Singh. They arrested him from a flat in the Tangra area near EM Bypass. The charges? Vandalism at the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters in Kolkata last month.
Rakesh Singh had been on the run since leading that vandalism attack on August 29. Interestingly, even while hiding, he stayed active on social media. He posted videos slamming the police and defending his actions.
The drama didn’t stop there. On September 1, police arrested his elder son, Shivam Singh. Authorities say Shivam helped his father escape after the incident. This arrest stemmed from an FIR filed by the Congress party. They accused Rakesh and his group of attacking their office and defacing posters of leaders like Rahul Gandhi.
Right now, Rakesh Singh remains in police custody as the legal battle heats up. The family’s high court plea could be a game-changer in this Kolkata BJP-Congress clash. Stay tuned for updates on the September 11 hearing—could this lead to major relief for the Singhs?
