Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, today met the Gomti Task Force to check how the state’s ongoing work to clean the Gomti River is progressing. The meeting is part of the National Mission for Clean Ganga, a nationwide effort to restore India’s sacred rivers.
During the session, Lt. Gen. Navin Sachdeva, the chief of staff of the Indian Army’s Central Command, gave the CM a status update. Army teams have been patrolling the river on foot and by boat, removing more than 1,000 tons of water hyacinth and holding more than 100 awareness drives that reached over 70,000 people. The CM welcomed the achievements and called for the creation of an inter‑departmental committee to coordinate all cleanup actions and bring the Gomti back to its historic purity.
In related news, the Uttar Pradesh government plans a series of events to mark the 150th birth anniversary of national Hero, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and the “Run for Unity.” Thousands of young Indians will join the march, promoting national unity and the Jan Jagran Abhiyan campaign. Chief Minister Yogi outlined a detailed schedule that includes a three‑day walk (padayatra) across every Lok Sabha constituency, covering 8–10 km and linking all Vidhan Sabha segments.
Before the padayatra, local programmes will include essay contests, debate competitions, seminars on Patel’s life, street plays, and symposia. Youth‑focused actions will feature a Drug‑Free India pledge, “Vocal for Local” and “Local for Global” campaigns, plus yoga and health camps. A special cleanliness drive will run alongside the walk, with local clubs, social groups, and cultural organisations placing wreaths at statues of Sardar Patel.
The combined focus on river clean‑up, patriotic celebrations, and community engagement shows Uttar Pradesh’s pledge to keep its heritage and environment thriving.
