Aamir Rashid Ali reveals Delhi blast carried out to instil fear in public: Sources

Aamir Rashid Ali, a 24‑year‑old from Sambor, Pulwama, was taken into 10‑day NIA custody after police said he helped plan the blast that hit the Red Fort area on November 10. According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Ali worked with Dr Umar Muhammad Nabi—identified as the main suspect in the attack—to arrange the vehicle that carried the improvised explosive device.

The NIA’s remand note says Ali booked the car used in the bombing, which was registered in his name. It also points to a safe house that reportedly held about 20 vehicles and more explosives. The agency says the safe house could contain evidence of a larger conspiracy aimed at “instilling panic and attacking India’s unity and sovereignty.”

On November 16, Delhi police and the NIA seized another vehicle linked to Nabi, who died driving the truck in the blast. Forensic work confirmed that Nabi—a Pulwama resident and assistant professor at Al Falah University—was the driver of the vehicle‑borne IED. The NIA has interviewed 73 witnesses, including many injured in the explosion, and is examining evidence across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and other states.

The Patiala House Court approved the NIA’s request for Ali’s custody early Monday, citing the need to uncover the broader terrorist network behind the attack. Earlier, Delhi police intensified their probe of Al Falah University, filing two FIRs—one for cheating and one for forgery—tied to the bombing.

The investigation remains ongoing under case number RC‑21/2025/NIA/DLI, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
