Pune, Oct 7 – A warm‑up match for the Ranji Trophy turned into a heated dispute between former Mumbai star Prithvi Shaw and Pune fast bowler Musheer Khan. The clash began when Musheer dismissed Shaw for 181 runs from 220 balls, a score that had kept both teams on their toes.
After the wicket, Shaw walked off the pitch. His teammates – some he’s played with for years – threw heated words back at him. Shaw responded with sharp insults and then brandished his bat, walking menacingly toward Musheer. The situation quickly escalated, prompting players and umpires to step in before a full‑blown brawl could start.
Shaw, who knocked five big shots out of the park, was already a familiar name on Indian maidans and had played five Tests, six ODIs and a T20 match for India. He had been a regular in Mumbai’s domestic side, but a slump last year saw him fall out of favor. After leaving Mumbai, he secured a no‑objection certificate and will play for Pune in the upcoming Ranji season.
The incident, seen by some as a flare‑up over Shaw’s move to Pune, was described by on‑field staff as just “overly exuberant playing.” Neither the Mumbai Cricket Association nor the Maharashtra Cricket Association has issued an official statement, hinting that the exchange was part of the usual competitive heat.
Despite the drama, Shaw finished an impressive 181, helping Maharashtra cross 400 in the opening day innings of the match. His run‑of‑the‑mill century earlier in the game was a reminder of his explosive potential.
