The attack unfolded at Poovathumoodu School in Ettumanoor around 10:30 a.m. when the husband, identified as Kochumon, walked onto campus and confronted his wife, Doniya, who teaches there. According to school officials, the confrontation happened in the headmistress’ office. Kochumon reportedly brandished a sharp object and stabbed Doniya’s neck after requesting to speak with her. The injured teacher was rushed straight to a hospital; early accounts indicated the wounds were not life‑threatening.
Staff members suspect the incident stems from a domestic dispute. Earlier that morning, at roughly 9:30 a.m., Kochumon stopped by the school to ask about Doniya’s whereabouts. The headmistress told him she had not yet arrived, and he left, only to return about an hour later. When he came back at 10:30 a.m., she explained that Doniya was in class. Kochumon insisted he needed to hand her a book and wanted to meet her. Thinking the request harmless, the headmistress called the teacher to her office—a moment when the assault apparently took place according to witnesses. Hearing screams, other teachers hurried in, but by the time they arrived, Kochumon had already fled the premises. The episode reportedly lasted only a few minutes, leaving everyone present in disbelief.
Police have opened an investigation and are actively searching for Kochumon. Authorities are recording statements from the headmistress, teachers, and other staff while also reviewing possible security oversights that allowed the intruder to enter the school unrestricted. The incident has heightened concerns among parents and educators about safety protocols, especially regarding unfettered access during school hours.
