TPL 7: GS Delhi Aces maintain momentum at the top; Gujarat Panthers register first win on Day Three (Ld)

Ahmedabad, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – The Gujarat Panthers secured their first victory of the event, while the GS Delhi Aces cemented their lead atop the standings on day three of Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 7. The action at Gujarat University Tennis Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday saw close finishes and thrilling play. Yash Mumbai Eagles and SG Pipers also claimed wins in their matches.

The day started with the Yash Mumbai Eagles taking on the Hyderabad Strikers. Carole Monnet gave the Strikers off to a strong start, beating Riya Bhatia 16‑9 in the women’s singles. Bhatia and Niki Poonacha answered back, defeating Monnet and Vishnu Vardhan 15‑12 in mixed doubles. In men’s singles, Damir Dzumhur got his first win of the tournament, dispatching Pedro Martinez 16‑9. Though Vishnu Vardhan and Pedro Martinez edged Dzumhur and Niki Poonacha 13‑12 in mixed doubles, Yash Mumbai Eagles edged the overall contest 52‑48.

Later, Gujarat Panthers faced Rajasthan Rangers. Ekaterina Kazionova dominated Nuria Brancaccio 16‑9 in women’s singles, then teamed with Dhakshineswar Suresh to capture a 13‑12 victory over Brancaccio and Anirudh Chandrasekar in mixed doubles, leaving Rajasthan Rangers in control. In the men’s singles clash, top‑50 players Alexandre Müller (#46) and Luciano Darderi (#26) faced off, with Müller winning 17‑8. In men’s doubles, Müller and Anirudh Chandrasekar took the title 14‑11 over Dhakshineswar Suresh and Darderi, finishing with a 52‑48 comeback win for Gujarat Panthers – their first of the season.

The third match of the day saw SG Pipers battle Chennai Smashers. Irina Bara edged Shrivalli Bhamidipaty 13‑12 in a tight women’s singles duel. Bhamidipaty and Rohan Bopanna bounced back, winning 16‑9 over Bara and Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli in mixed doubles. Ramkumar Ramanathan captured a 13‑12 win against Dalibor Svrcina in men’s singles. Svrcina and Bollipalli took 15‑10 in mixed doubles over Bopanna and Ramanathan, but SG Pipers still edged the overall score 51‑49.

The day’s final fixture pitted the table‑topping GS Delhi Aces against Gurgaon Grand Slammers. Sofia Costoulas beat Sahaja Yamalapalli 16‑9 in women’s singles, then teamed with Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan to secure a 15‑10 win over Yamalapalli and Sriram Balaji in mixed doubles. In men’s singles, Dan Evans edged Billy Harris 13‑12. Closing out the day, Evans and Balaji took 14‑11 over Nedunchezhiyan and Harris in men’s doubles, but GS Delhi Aces finished ahead with a 54‑46 overall score.
