Suspecting foul play, family of deceased Jadavpur University student to file police complaint

Father’s Shocking Allegations in Jadavpur University Student Drowning Case

In a heartbreaking twist to the tragic death of a Jadavpur University student, her father has now raised serious doubts about how she died. He believes foul play might be involved and plans to file a police complaint. This comes just days after the National Commission for Women (NCW) demanded a detailed investigation from Kolkata Police.

The incident shook the campus on September 11 night. Anamika, a third-year English Literature student who couldn’t swim, was found in a water body inside Jadavpur University. Her body was recovered around 10 PM, right in the middle of a cultural event organized by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of CPI(M). The program halted immediately as news spread, and she was rushed to KPC Medical College and Hospital nearby. Sadly, doctors declared her brought dead on arrival.

After her last rites on Sunday night, Anamika’s father couldn’t shake off his questions. "Why would she go into the water if she didn’t know how to swim? She never drank alcohol. If someone forced her or pushed her, I need answers," he told reporters. He added that her friends were with her that night near the pond, and he wants police to grill them thoroughly. "We first thought it was an accident, but now doubts are creeping in. We’ll file a formal complaint to uncover the truth."

This development follows the NCW’s quick action. The commission took suo motu notice of the Kolkata student death and wrote to Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, asking for an Action Taken Report within three days. They also demanded a fair probe into the drowning incident, a check on university safety measures, and strict punishment if any foul play emerges in the Jadavpur University campus death.

Initial post-mortem results confirm drowning as the cause, with no visible injuries on her body. But police are waiting for the detailed viscera report to check for alcohol, drugs, or toxins. Sources say Anamika was with friends drinking by the pond. They claim they warned her not to enter the shallow water because of her swimming skills, but she slipped in, lost balance, and started drowning. Her friends pulled her out, alerted security, and rushed her to the hospital—but it was too late.

The university hasn’t wasted time responding to the tragedy. Authorities issued a circular late Friday, banning trespassing, morning or evening walks on campus, narcotics, alcohol consumption, and entry without a valid ID. They’ve ramped up security to prevent similar incidents and ensure student safety at Jadavpur University.

As the investigation into this Kolkata student drowning continues, the father’s push for answers has put fresh pressure on police and university officials. Many are now watching closely to see if hidden details come to light.
