PM Modi receives US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor; hopes tenure will bolster India-US ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the United States’ new ambassador‑designate, Sergio Gor, in New Delhi on Saturday. In a lively tweet, Modi said he was glad to receive Gor and expressed confidence that the new U.S. envoy would help deepen the India–U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The U.S. Embassy in India echoed the message. “Excited to welcome Ambassador‑designate Sergio Gor to India! He will meet with Indian counterparts to explore ways to strengthen our ambitious partnership and build a safer, stronger, more prosperous relationship,” the embassy posted on X. Its message highlighted Gor’s role in tightening ties between the two countries.
Gor’s first official visit in India included a meeting with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. Jaishankar tweeted, “Pleased to meet Ambassador‑designate Sergio Gor of the U.S. today in New Delhi. We talked about the India‑U.S. relationship and its growing global significance. Wishing him success in his new role.” The friendly exchange underscored how the partnership continues to evolve in a rapidly changing world.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also met Gor earlier that day. The Ministry of External Affairs shared on X that they had a productive discussion about the India‑U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and its shared priorities. Misri wished the ambassador the best and reiterated the importance of collaboration on security, trade and technology.
Gor’s appointment follows a Senate confirmation hearing in September, where he praised the unique friendship between former President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi. He described that bond as a key strength in advancing U.S.–India ties.
Across New Delhi, officials and diplomats celebrated Gor’s arrival, highlighting their shared commitment to furthering a robust partnership. With Modi’s approval and ongoing collaboration from key ministries, the India‑U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership is set to grow stronger in the coming years.
