New Delhi – President Droupadi Murmu is slated to address the connection between human rights and the fair, dignified provision of public services during the launch of Human Rights Day celebrations on December 10, said an official on Thursday.
The President will be the principal guest at the National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam. Human Rights Day, observed worldwide each year on December 10, marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and celebrates its continuing relevance.
At the same time, a National Conference titled “Ensuring Everyday Essentials: Public Services and Dignity for All” will take place, the statement added. This event dovetails with the year’s theme – “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.” Chief Secretary P.K. Mishra, the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The conference will feature two themed sessions that will tackle the necessity of universal, equal, and respectful access to public services as a fundamental requirement for safeguarding human rights. Renowned speakers are expected to contribute, the statement said. Participants will include representatives from State Human Rights Commissions, other national bodies, officials from the central and state governments, human rights advocates, civil society groups, academics, professionals, media personnel, and more.
To join, the NHRC has posted an online registration link (https://www.hrcnet.nic.in/einvite/registration.aspx), which will remain open until December 9. Those registered will receive e‑invites via email for venue entry.
In a separate event earlier that day, the President honored former President R. Venkataraman with floral tributes at Lok Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
