In a exciting boost for Indian golf, Amitabh Kant has joined the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) as a new member of its Governing Body. Speaking at a PGTI event in New Delhi on September 12, Kant shared his bold vision: golf could one day outshine cricket in India. “With our huge population and over 300 golf courses nationwide, if our young talent picks up the game, Indian players could dominate world championships,” he said enthusiastically.
Kant, a keen golfer himself, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “consistent and unconditional” support for all sports. He pointed out how Modi’s leadership has sparked major reforms in India’s sports policies, leading to strong performances at events like the Olympics and other global tournaments. These changes are already paying off, Kant added, helping build a brighter future for sports in the country.
PGTI president and cricket legend Kapil Dev warmly welcomed Kant’s addition. “This is a big step forward for Indian golf,” Dev said. He highlighted Kant’s expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking as key strengths that will elevate the PGTI tour. “His insights will help grow our reach, open doors for talented golfers, and nurture excellence in the sport,” Dev noted.
Kant has always been a strong advocate for growing golf in India. He expressed full confidence in PGTI’s efforts to spot and develop young talent, making the sport more accessible and exciting for everyone. With voices like Kant’s, Indian golf looks set for a thrilling rise on the global stage.
