Powerball Jackpot balloons to whopping $719M — here’s when to hear the winning numbers

The Powerball jackpot has jumped to $719 million after almost three months of no winner, making it the third‑largest prize of 2025. The drawing will take place Saturday at 11 p.m., when the winning numbers will finally be announced.

A win gives you two paying options. You can choose the 30‑year annuity, which would net roughly $24 million per year before taxes, or take the single, upfront lump sum. The lump‑sum payout is estimated at $333 million before taxes, which is lower than the advertised figure because the advertised amount reflects the total of the annuity payments over 30 years.

A ticket sold at a 7‑Eleven on Los Alisos Boulevard in Mission Viejo contained five of the six winning numbers and would earn $979 462, but no one has yet come forward to claim that prize.

The biggest lottery prize ever was just over $2 billion, which was won by 31‑year‑old Edwin Castro of California in November 2022. Castro opted for the lump‑sum payout of $998 million and took home about $628 million after taxes, according to the California Lottery.

Castro was sued by fellow Californian Jose Rivera, who claimed he actually bought the winning ticket at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena and that it was stolen by his landlord. A Los Angeles County judge dismissed the lawsuit in 2024.

If the current jackpot is taken as a lump sum, the winner would receive roughly $210 million after a federal marginal tax rate of up to 37 %, plus any applicable state taxes based on their place of residence.
