Ramban disaster victims to get 189 new houses within 6 months: J&K L-G

On November 29, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited Ramban district to mark the start of new housing initiatives for flood and landslide victims. He laid the foundation stone for a restoration plan that will give 189 families three‑room homes, with construction slated to finish within six months. The governor highlighted that while the state has already conducted rescue and relief operations per official guidelines, rebuilding homes requires additional support. In partnership with the Human Resources Development Society, the houses will include a 15‑year insurance plan, regular health check‑ups, and internet access—measures meant to secure a dignified and stable life for tenants.
Sinha urged the district officials to add any families that may have slipped through the initial assessment and thanked HRDS for its collaboration. He noted that similar projects are underway in Rajouri and Udhampur and reaffirmed that reconstructing homes across Jammu and Kashmir remains a top priority.
“The day’s work in Ramban reflects a larger commitment to deliver safe, permanent housing to all families affected by the recent heavy rains,” he added, emphasizing the administration’s goal of efficient rehabilitation so residents can rebuild with dignity.
The rainfall spike on April 20, 2025, caused flash floods and landslides that devastated several villages, claiming at least three lives—one from a collapsed home in Baghana village—and destroyed more than 45 houses while partially damaging around 250 structures, including shops and public buildings. A number of vehicles and businesses were also swept away, compounding the economic and infrastructure toll.
