Mohammad Haris after match-winning knock against Oman

Pakistan’s Mohammad Haris Shines in Asia Cup Win Over Oman, Thanks Captain and Team for Support

In a thrilling Asia Cup Group A match in Dubai, Pakistan batter Mohammad Haris turned heads with a match-winning knock against Oman. After smashing 66 runs off just 43 balls, Haris opened up about the tough times he’s faced and how his captain Salman Agha, coaches, and senior teammates stood by him.

"Yeah, obviously, it’s super important for every player," Haris said after the game. "The way the captain supported me—not just him, but the coaches and all the senior players—I want to thank them too. There are those difficult phases when you can’t perform, and it’s really hard to bounce back. You face a lot of criticism, but I take it positively. Big thanks to the captain, coaches, and seniors in the team for that."

Haris, the right-handed opener, was the standout performer for Pakistan. His explosive innings, packed with seven fours and three sixes, helped the Men in Green post a strong 160/7 in their 20 overs. Oman, chasing 161, crumbled under pressure and got bowled out for a measly 67 in just 16.4 overs, handing Pakistan a massive 93-run victory.

Pakistan’s bowlers stole the show in the chase. The spinners were on fire, snagging six wickets while conceding only 40 runs in 11 overs. Shaheen Afridi set the tone with a tight first over, and young gun Saim Ayub struck early by dismissing Oman skipper Jatinder Singh for a golden duck on the second over’s first ball.

Things went from bad to worse for Oman. Ayub clean bowled Aamir Kaleem for 13 off 11 balls in his next over. Mohammad Nadeem joined Hammad Mirza, but spinner Sufiyan Muqeem removed Nadeem for 3 off 7 balls right after the powerplay. Sufyan Mehmood added just one run before Mohammad Nawaz got him in the eighth over.

Wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla came in, but Shaheen Afridi’s sharp throw from the boundary ran him out. In the same over, Muqeem dismissed Mirza—the only Omani with some fight—for 27 off 23 balls. By the 10th over, Oman were reeling at 49/6, with Ikria Islam (0 off 6) and Shah Faisal (0 off 1) at the crease.

Captain Salman Ali Agha then brought on Faheem Ashraf, who wasted no time—dismissing Zikria Islam for a duck on his third ball. Afridi followed up by getting Shah Faisal for 1, and Ashraf wrapped things up by bowling Hassnain Shah for 1 on his first ball of the second over. Pakistan’s bowlers showed fiery energy, gearing up for their blockbuster clash against India.

Haris earned the Player of the Match award for his game-changing batting that powered Pakistan’s dominant Asia Cup win.

Looking ahead, Pakistan faces India in a high-stakes Asia Cup match on September 14 in Dubai. Their final group game is against the UAE on September 17, after which the Super 4 stage kicks off. Coming into this tournament, Pakistan had a mixed T20I record—13 wins and 14 losses in 27 matches—following their early exit from last year’s T20 World Cup after defeats to India and the USA.
