Odisha is gearing up for a massive green initiative! On September 17, the state government plans to plant 7.5 million saplings in just one day to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. This exciting tree plantation drive, called “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0,” honors the PM while pushing for a greener, more sustainable Odisha.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led a key meeting on Monday at Lok Seva Bhawan. He reviewed preparations with top officials and District Collectors to ensure everything runs smoothly. “This is a heartfelt tribute from Odisha’s people to our Prime Minister,” Majhi said, stressing the need for everyone to join in.
He urged citizens from all walks of life—elected leaders, students, youth, and women’s groups—to get involved. “Only our collective effort can make this ambitious tree plantation drive a success,” the CM added. To make it fun and trackable, he encouraged everyone to plant a sapling, snap a selfie with it, and share it on the Meri Life Portal or social media. Participants will even get digital certificates as a reward!
The event kicks off at sunrise and runs till sunset across all districts. It brings together government departments, schools, NGOs, industries, banks, and local communities. Expect huge participation: around 15 lakh students, 2 lakh teachers, 76,000 Anganwadi workers, 17,000 ASHA workers, 10,000 eco-clubs, 17,500 forest protection committees, 1 lakh NSS volunteers, 16,500 MY Bharat youth volunteers, thousands of self-help groups, and corporate teams. Even the police department has its own targets to meet.
Majhi recalled last year’s success, where Odisha planted 6.72 crore trees and ranked fourth in the country. For 2025, the state aims for 7.5 crore trees overall, with 4.65 crore already in the ground. He praised PM Modi’s vision for a self-reliant India and credited his leadership for boosting Odisha’s growth over decades.
Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu from the Forest & Environment Department promised strict monitoring, just like an election, to keep things transparent and efficient. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja emphasized regular check-ups to ensure the saplings survive and thrive.
The drive is officially registered on the Meri Life Portal, making it easy for volunteers to join and get certified. A big promotional push on TV and social media is already spreading the word and inspiring more people to participate in this Odisha tree plantation campaign. If you’re in Odisha, grab your shovel—it’s time to go green!
