PM Modi to visit Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura today; to launch projects worth over Rs 5,100 cr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi heads to Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on Monday for a packed day of infrastructure launches and cultural highlights. In Itanagar, he’ll kick off projects worth more than Rs 5,100 crore, spotlighting two big hydropower initiatives that promise to boost the region’s energy future.

Modi starts his Arunachal Pradesh visit by laying virtual foundation stones for the Heo Hydro Electric Project and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project. These North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) ventures will generate a combined 426 MW of clean power. The Heo project, a 240 MW setup in Shi Yomi district’s Siyom sub-basin, aims to produce around 1,000 million units of electricity each year. Meanwhile, the 186 MW Tato-I project will churn out about 803 million units annually.

Costing over Rs 3,700 crore in total, both projects team up NEEPCO—a key player in Northeast India’s power scene since 1976—with the Arunachal Pradesh government. Officials say they’ll tap the state’s huge hydroelectric potential, create jobs, and drive economic growth. “These moves will spark development and open doors to a brighter future for locals,” one senior official noted.

Beyond power, the initiatives align with India’s push for sustainable energy and the goal of a developed ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. They could transform Arunachal Pradesh’s energy landscape and strengthen the national grid.

After Arunachal, Modi flies to Tripura. He’ll land at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, hop a helicopter to Palatana, and drive to the historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur. There, he’ll inaugurate key development works and join religious rituals in a 45-minute event focused on the site’s spiritual and cultural vibes—no big speech planned, just meaningful steps forward for the temple complex.
