Mumbai, Dec 8 (LatestNewsX) – Beyond his polished screen presence, veteran actor Dharmendra captured fans’ hearts with his candid charisma and blunt honesty. At a promotional outing for the 2018 sequel “Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se,” featuring his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, reporters asked him about dancing with Rekha in the “Rafta Rafta Medley” number. Dharmendra chuckled, replying “Haye Haye Haye Haye,” which had everyone laughing.
He called Rekha his old “saheli,” noting that they’ve worked together on several films and have grown closer with every project. He affectionately called her a “girl,” adding, “Good girl, I say that because she is a girl like Dev sahab (Dev Anand).” For those who missed it, the duo tapped their feet to the upbeat “Rafta Rafta Medley” from the movie. Their partnership dates back further. Their first on‑screen collaboration was the 1980 hit “Ram Balram,” an action drama pairing Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan as brothers, with Rekha and Zeenat Aman in the leading ladies’ roles. Two years later they reunited in the drama “Ghazab,” where Dharmendra played a double role as Ajay “Munna” and Vijay; Rekha portrayed Jamuna in a remake of the Tamil film “Kalyanaraman.” The 1984 film “Baazi” saw Dharmendra as Police Inspector Ajay Sharma and Rekha as Mrs. Asha Sharma, with supporting turns by Mithun Chakraborty, Ranjeeta, Shakti Kapoor, Madan Puri and Mac Mohan under Raj N. Sippy’s direction. In 1987 they teamed up again in “Jaan Hatheli Pe,” with Dharmendra as Soni Kapoor and Rekha as Geeta Verma, produced by Sudesh Kumar and directed by Raghunath Jhalani. Their final leading pairing before the latest sequel was the 1989 film “Kasam Suhaag Ki.”
