U Mumba kicked off their Chennai matches on a high note, dominating hosts Tamil Thalaivas with a 42-24 victory at the SDAT Multi Purpose Indoor Stadium. The Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 contenders snapped a three-game losing streak and climbed to sixth on the points table.
Head coach Anil Chaprana praised his team’s turnaround. “After those three losses, we focused on motivating the players,” he said. “They have no real weaknesses. If we stick to our strengths, we can beat anyone. Our job as coaches is to fire them up and let them play their game. In practice, they spotted their errors, fixed them with heart, and delivered today.”
Sandeep Kumar shone with a Super 10, while captain Sunil Kumar notched a High Five to steer U Mumba to the win. Now, as PKL Season 12 heads into Revenge Week, all eyes turn to U Mumba’s clash with Gujarat Giants on Thursday.
The teams last met in a nail-biter, ending in a 29-29 tie before U Mumba edged a 6-5 tie-breaker. Sunil reflected on that thriller: “It was our first league match—a great game. We won the tie-breaker because Shadloui slipped up. Both sides played strong; that’s why it went that far.”
He pinpointed the key moment: “Shadloui’s error cost him. He aimed for two or three points but got trapped. I doubt he’ll repeat it. If he does, we’ll handle him.” The matchup spotlights the rivalry between Sunil Kumar and Mohammadreza Shadloui, but Sunil keeps it team-focused. “This isn’t Shadloui vs. Sunil,” he insisted. “That was the last game—it’s over. Now it’s Gujarat Giants vs. U Mumba. Kabaddi is a team sport. The side that plays smart and avoids mistakes wins.”
Sunil added confidently: “Shadloui will fight for revenge, and so will we. If we match today’s energy, we’ll take it.”
Thursday’s PKL Season 12 lineup brings more excitement. Puneri Paltan, riding four wins in their last five, chase a top-two spot. They face a hungry Bengaluru Bulls team looking to rebound from a tie-breaker loss to UP Yoddhas.
In the evening showdown, Gujarat Giants meet U Mumba for Revenge Week glory. Beyond the Sunil-Shadloui buzz, both squads eye back-to-back victories to boost their standings in the Pro Kabaddi League.
